Empty cell in MySQL

How do I output the HTML code   if a cell in MySQL has no data in it?

not really

in essence you create the two date strings
then you need to chop them up and compare the month strings
if they match then you need to construct the display as you showed
if not then you just show the full strings

much better imo to just show the full strings
