I know this point has been mentioned many times before but wth all the changes over the last few months what sort of %'s are acceptable for major keywords.

I operate very specific websites and it can be difficult to reduce the use of particualr words.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

My experience tells me that it's ok to load up pretty heavy w/ title tags & Alt tags, but be very frugal w/ text.

If it's a key phrase, and can be legitimately broken up and then interspersed across the content, Google's OK with that.

I see a lot of blather re: keyword incidence in the forums; At the end of the day, Google still likes the keywords (sparingly) in the title, legitimately in the "description" meta, at the beginning (top) of the page and again at the bottom, preferrably via alt tages or title tags.

Are there any sites that can review my webpages and advise on keyword density?

go to searchengineworld.com, then scroll down to the keyword density analyzer tool at the bottom of the page.

xbase,
thanks for the info - the webpage is a great source for seo especially if the site is already out there. Do you know of any sites that will check the pages on my harddrive BEFORE I show it to the world?
Cheers.

Not sure of an online file checker, but there is a application called "Site Content Analyzer" that will perform the function. Search on Google to find it -

On this same topic, can I have a keyword density which makes google dislike me?

My take: anything above 40%
