Stopwords as search terms

Hi,

This is my first post, so pardon me if I'm in the wrong forum.

I am having a problem and I'm not sure if it's my site search engine or my use of keywords. We run an events calendar on our portal and we use keywords like "what's on, whats on, what is on" etc trying to capture all variants, plus other words of course. Even the words "what's on" in the title.

It appears that my site search engine (name available on request - open source and excellent in every other aspect) uses the apostrophe as a separator and is indexing "what" and "s" separately. Unfortunately "what", "is" and "on" are all in our stopwords list. Even as a phrase search I cannot get "what's on" to return any results.

I've even tried adding "s" to the stopwords list and removing "what" without success.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

mona

Hi, obsos, and welcome to WebmasterWorld:) It seems like your question is more of a technical one, so you're right - this probably isn't the best forum for it.

You'll probably get more helpful replies somewhere else. I'm not tech savvy myself, but maybe somewhere like the PHP Server Side Scripting forum?
