Which is the better keyword? Or if there is more competition on one do I go after the other?

Either go for the one with the most traffic or with the least competition (to try and hit the top spot more easily).

Wow, what an awesome topic.

Concentrate on both. This is an area where it will make sense to use both keywords (aka both forms of the term) on the same page!

But this leads to a VERY interesting discussion on stemming.

I've found that searchers are more likely to enter the numbers as opposed to the spelling of the number.

Top 10 is searched more than Top Ten. I'm not too certain about the nth portion of it.

I wish that I had given this answer! Of course you can work both terms into the title and body text etc. to take advantage of them.
