Hello all,

I'm wondering if there is a utility where we can find out the top keywords or phrases that visitors use to locate a certain site in the Search Engines.

Thanks and Merry Xmas!

I had a look at that thread but it doesn't really help me. I need to be able to find out what was the keyword typed into the Search Engine that led to the browser to our site.

You need to have access to your site's log files. You can then put them through an log analysis program to see where your visitors have come from.

You need to have access to your site's log files.

If you do not have access to your log files there are outfits that will let you put a small javascript on each page that will allow them to count hits (with, in most cases, information on referrers) for you. Many are free or have a free version.

Definitely not as good as direct access to your logs, but much better than not knowing what is going on.

I was more after what keyword was entered as opposed to where the visitor actually came from.

If the visitor came from a search engine you will get something like:

http*//www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=kw1+kw2

which tells you which search engine sent the browser plus what keywords were used.

The service I use analyses this for me and gives me tables of top keywords, as well as top referrers, top search engines etc. Not as good as having access to your logs and knowing how to analyze them, but a darn good substitute for those who do not have access to said logs.
