This is really intresting. A few months ago I started playing a game with my site regarding keyword density. My site is pretty much a hobbie that regards Nostradamus. It has a pagerank of 5 and came up #1 or #2 on Google for the keyword "Mabus" (The name of the site is The Nostradamus Mabus Project.. or Mabus Project)

I pretty much did a find a replace with the keyword "Mabus" to change to "Nostradamus Mabus" and "Century" to "Nostradamus Century" in short my keyword density is up to almost 30% or so for the word "Nostradamus"

Now this is the problem... I did MAJOR Changes... even the people linking to me have changed the anchor text to just reflect "nostradamus" and that is it.. nothing else...

Now this is the kicker... my site's ranking have NOT changed at all.. zero..nada..

I have come to the conclusion that Google has not updated their rankings in over a month and a half... I have even noticed sites that have nothing more than a Amazon.Com banner and have not been updated since 1996 show up in the first page under "Nostradamus" keyword

Am I crazy on this?

I did some keyword density changes on my site a few weeks and moved from #7 to #3 for my keyword. I haven't noticed any new sites in a range of keywords I watch in over a month tho.

I placed two targeted keywords in the content of the home page five days ago: now those keywords rank fine!

I think that they are updating very often.

Yes wehberf I actually think you may be. ;)

I have the same experience as Angilo on this. We also made some changes on two of our sites 10 days ago and the new content is already indexed in Google`s database and ranking fine!

I am new to the optimization scenario.. but I made several changes to my site, which is a personal site on a .edu domain and haven't seen any changes in the way google lists it.. my site doesn't show up for any of the new keywords that I put in and still shows up for the words that I took off..

does google differentiate anyway in the frequecy with which it updates different sites?

phpacer - welcome to Webmaster World.

Yes, Google does revisit sites at different intervals. Sites that are updated regularly with fresh content get revisited more often. Not sure how best to phrase this, but the more your site earns a reputation for having fresh content, the more Google will come back looking for fresh content.

That's a very simplistic explanation, though. You may want to read through the Google News [webmasterworld.com] forum to learn more.
