I´ve readed different opinions about the use of comma in meta tag keyword, some people reccommends to put your keyowords with comma and no space, others comma and space...

Does it matter? Putting keyowords,like,that,is annoying I prefer to use comma and space but does it really matters?

We've had this debate for years. In my opinion and experience - it doesn't matter seeing that engine typically don't use that tag. however, if you have a site search check out what it uses.

I've stopped using them alltogether.

The value of a the your <body> tag being line higher in the code outweighs the keyword meta tag IMO -- That's how useless it is ;)

Guess Nick_W is right on spot, meta keywords does not matter at all.

I've tried spaces, commas, 1 KW, 10 KW, 20 KW with no difference...

Anyway I still use them, usually just the main KW for the page, no space, comma or other speculations ;)

Afaik, keywords are seperated by comma if you want to treat them as individual single words. A comma is also used to indicate multiple keyword phrases.

So a keyword tag like "Meta Tag,keywords,comma versus space, ..." specifies keywords as well as phrases. At least i remember it being so in the past.

To my surprise i couldn't find any official w3c specs about commas vs. space for the keyword tag. The only official example i found is:

W3C - Notes on helping search engines index your Web site [w3.org]

<META name="keywords" content="vacation,Greece,sunshine">
<META name="description" content="Idyllic European vacations">

No spaces after a comma and no mention of phrases (which doesn't mean spaces shouldn't be used) ...

I have heard two suggested methods for keywords:

Method #1
keyword1,keyword2,keyword3

Method #2
keyword1 keyword2 keyword3

Method #2 apparently enables the keywords to be used in various combinations, to suit the search. I don't know if this works but I would like to. Does anyone else know?

BTW, there is another thread regarding the "value of keywords" debate. There seems to be evidence that Google refers to meta tag keywords if it can't find results elsewhere (typos inn surch turms).

IMHO it doesn't matter. "Good" and "Smart" SEs would recognize both. It would be just stupid not to. BUT, those SEs do not care about keywords in the meta tag anymore.

I don't see any point worrying about smaller, unknown SEs, since they don't bring any traffic anyways, just waste your bandwidth. Many people go as far as banning them from site access.

If it helps, I still use the keyword tag, bung in a few phrases, no commas, and then worry about something more important like getting hit in a collision between a comet being ridden by Elvis, and Hitler riding a Unicorn.

I use keyoword, keywor2, keyword3.

I used to write without commas, key,key2,key3 and see no difference at all...

Does anyone have something to prove other thing?

>Does anyone have something to prove other thing?

Inktomi (which is the only SE of note to use the things) says to use commas.
