If we took a group like Overture, Google and WordTracker and were allowed to look at their database we would get some very valuable information on the number of searches performed for specific keywords.

I would assume that most of use use WordTracker and its fair to say it is pretty accurate. (unless someone knows different)

We have to accept that there are many factors involved in achieving quality traffic, so What makes visitiors click what they click.

Okay, we can't get unlimited access to such resources but I would think that there must be a benchmark or method enabling us to predict potential click-throughs.

The internet is mature enough to have certain models now, clearly 100% accuracy is impossible, but trend forecasting is possible.

Yeap, definitely, I think there are people who specialize in this. I, for one, wouldn't have the time for it.

It's a bit of a lottery though. We have bought domains for products taht were supposed to come on the market but never made it. So it all depends.

I'm pretty sure that there are firms out there, I wonder whether they buy data from Overture, Google and Dmoz etc.
