In regards to a previous post...This has me wondering about a question that has been on my mind.
If my products are blue widgets, green widgets, small widgets, etc.
I realize that I will make a page with the most profitable form of each of those products. Example.."green color widgets" etc.
But what about my index page? How should I choose the keyword for it? Should I focus on many keywords? Widgets is too broad of a term and much too competitive. Any suggestions?
Is there a general rule of thumb?
Thanks for any suggestions.

What I do is focus on the main keyword (the most demanded) and try to squeeze a handful of others in body text. I sometimes get dual listings in serps this way. (homepage + product page)
