I've been using the free version of wordtracker just to see what keywords to aim for, matching that up with the search numbers returned from Overture to get a feel for the market.
Does anyone have any experience with KEI? The results (Alta Vista only until I pay) have been giving me some high KEI.
They state that anything over 100 is a gift, I have few keywords such as widget1 that return the following:
widget1 KEI 140000 count 1787 competing 23
widget2 KEI 12000
and some more normal ones in the area of 100 and less
Now is KEI really a good indicator of potential SERP success (combined with other factors such as linking, etc...)
Thanks to anyone who replies to this message. I would rather have things set out properly right from the beginning.
Not really. It is a decent guide that points you in the right direction, but that's about it. Page counts are something you should look at, but it is only a small part of what determines how competitive a term may be.
There are some areas on the web where the total number of pages competing for a given term is less than 50k. Yet, every single one of those pages was produced by a veteran SEO. Those types of keywords will score well, yet be extremely difficult to compete for.
