I am just putting the finishing touches on my website.
My company has 600+ retail locations worldwide, and for our store locator I opted to keep it static instead of a dynamic search.
I currently have a seperate page for each state, and all the locations in that state are noted. On the locations pages it gives the basic store info i.e. name, addy, city, state, zip, phone, fax, email, owners name, and if they have a seperate website. There is no info about our products here. Oh, the email and web address links are noted with seperate graphics...
I am stuck as to how I should create the meta descp and keywords for each of these state pages...
I was thinking on the lines of the following...
meta description= Welcome to Foo we sell many different types of widgets in "state name" we have over "number of stores" in "state name" blah blah blah...
meta keywords = foo, widgets we sell, services, "state name" and "city names...."
Does that sound right? I used H3 headings for each City name and then standard text in the listng... I guess I should tag each of the images for the email and web addys... but how should I tag the alts?
Thanks in advance... hope this made sense... my brain is going to explode soon.
cheers-

I think the length and number of questions you ask deters prompt feedback. Being one that often finds it difficult to ask questions without proper context, I will answer.
>>I currently have a seperate page for each state, and all the locations in that state are noted.
Great. Presuming your clients will look to do business with you on a geographic basis, this is a great opportunity to optimize a site on a Geo + keyword basis.
>>I am stuck as to how I should create the meta descp and keywords for each of these state pages...
This question shouldn't be asked without taking into consideration your TITLE TAG and your target keywords. Meta description is not difficult. It should be a clear and articulate sentence, but most important, it should contain your TITLE tag in exact- which sould be your keyword (phrase) in exact.
In other words: Each of your state pages should be:
<title> State Widget World
<description> State widget world offers.....
>>meta keywords = foo, widgets we sell, services, "state name" and "city names...."
to be frank, meta keywords don't matter, do as you will.
>>I used H3 headings for each City name and then standard text in the listng... I guess I should tag each of the images for the email and web addys... but how should I tag the alts?
Not quite sure I am with you here,.. there is considerable debate at to whether image tags are helpful. Do as you will, but this is if anything a very very very small part of comprehensive SEO mix. Just don't abuse it. That would be a mistake.
if I am understanding you right, your H3 city names is confusing to me. If you are saying that your state pages use H3 for each city in a state where you have locations, then I would ask you whether you are attempting to optimize your state pages for city + keywords. If so, it is a matter of the competitive arena whether you can pull that off. Assuming you have keyword search activity on both the state and city level, i would advise you to make city pages and optimize those seperately.
Your H1 should be State Widget World
Note, if users are not looking for you on a state + keyword standpoint, and instead are looking for you on a city + keyword, or simply, keyword standpoint, you may need to rethink your State breakdown as it may be more for the user then it is for optimization, a contradiction that would need to be carefully addressed to be the best at both.
title: Alabama Widgets by Comapanyname
description:
Alabama widgets by Companyname offer many widget solutions including widget type1, widget type 2, widget type 3, widget type 4, and many other widget related products and services.
Since the page only consists of locations and nothing aabout the widgets we sell I should just use the above title and descp for my keywords correct?
thanks again!
