Web site design or Website design

Not sure which one to optimise for Google.

Hi,

I just read a thread in which a member told another to check overture's "Term Suggestion Tool".
I didn't know such tool existed and I checked for my main term and it's nowhere to be found.

Do you know if overture modify "website design" into "web site design" and MORE IMPORTANTLY do you know if Google does the same, and which of the above is the most looked for?

Thanks

Leo

From Google Help at [google.com...]

Word Variations (Stemming)

To provide the most accurate results, Google does not use "stemming" or support "wildcard" searches. In other words, Google searches for exactly the words that you enter in the search box. Searching for "googl" or "googl*" will not yield "googler" or "googlin". If in doubt, try both forms: "airline" and "airlines," for instance.

So you have to decide whether to optimize for web site design or website design, Google considers them different.

"web design" is one of my major terms.

I'd go with "web design". It's the simplest option.

Overture will see both terms as the same (because of Matchdriver [overture.com]), although most search engines will not. You should use wordtracker or somthing similar to find out which one is the best. IMHO, 'website' will become the standard spelling over time, although whether this is true now, I don't know.

For these terms I would use WordTracker.com. They have a free trial.

To answer the first part of your question -- yes, Overture's match driver does match "website" with "web site."

That kind of thing can be nice when you want the impressions for your ad, but it can also limit the Tool's usefulness in seeing how people really search.
