Keyword Selection - Themes

Should I optimize for keywords that users don't seem to be searching for, or for kw that the searchers will not buy my product, if those kw's are generally in the same pages as my desired kw's? I would think that this is the right thing to do, because of themes.

And if so, how general should I get? Let's say I sell potato peelers. Should I optimize for all kw's associated with potatoes, even though 99% of them aren't related to peelers, are only for kw's associated with potato peelers?

Go with "food preparation", and have a section on potatoes. Include other things the peeler can be used on, such as carrots and apples.

I realize this is an example, but you might as well try for the whole kit and kaboodle for your keyword group. :)

franklin_dematto -- pyramid theming is primary based on content at the top levels with products and/or service for sale at the lowest levels.

a small group of search engine users may immediately want your "potatoe peelers" but the object is to entice the larger group looking for broad topics like weisinator suggested "food preparation" to hone in on your products by association -- not direct selling.
