After reading several threads on KW density I get a maximum % of 10 to 15 %.After review of several top ranking sites on different SE I see main KW densities of 30% and better for words and pharses.
I dont understand what should it be?

One of the problems with Keyword density, is that not everyone measures it the same way.

For example, differences might include:

  • Do you measure partial matches and plurals (eg car and cars).
  • Do you measure all the html or just the body content.
  • Do you have a stop list or not, if so which words are included.
  • Do you count words from a split phrase or not.

... probably loads more that I missed.

Remember, Google is not as sensitive to Keyword Density as some of the other engines, and a top position can be achieved despite a poor on page optimisation just by having good Page Rank and incoming text links.

There are so many variables involved in current algos that trying to extract the correct KWD from other peoples pages is fairly erratic unless you have a massive amount of time on your hands. Far better to run your own tests on domains you own, where at least some of the variables are a known quantity.

    Thanks for the response 4eyes.

OK, So as far as KW density is concerned, if I understand correctly, I use the WebmasterWorld KW density tool and stay within the 10 to 15% range on KW and pharses and not worry about it I should be fine.
    Is that correct?
