I've got this guy calling me trying to sell me a key word that works with IGN technology ... he's talking about packages ranging from $5000 to $125,000. I can't imagine that users are going to download this little app just to be able to do simple word searches - and besides, it's pretty irritating when it does work - ie, type in car, all you get is Lexus.
Any thoughts on this? I'd love some input.

I use WordTracker and that's a whole lot less expensive than the stuff you're talking about. It's not automatic, though and you have to use it through your browser.

From what I've read here in other forum discussions (and unless I completely misunderstood), this sort of software is something that almost certainly won't work. I also don't quite understand why anyone would buy keywords... They're not the same as domain names, they're just words and they're meaningless beyond the context of the site that is built around them--again, I could be wrong...

Yeah the IGN resellers won't leave me alone... The whole concept is pretty much a high risk investment. The words will be useless unless they can get the plugin widely installed. I personally think they will go down in flames just like realnames, but if you do decide to buy a keyword watch their prices. The standard price is 5k/year for a one word phrase, 1k/year for a two word phrases, or $250/year for a 3 word phrase. Many of these resellers are trying to sell them for much much more.
