What tools do you use to research your keywords and phrases?

Of course there’s the Overture Suggestion Tool and similar but I have found that the search volumes ratios to be misleading. Also terms found using these tools to be the most competitive as they are easy to research.

Here’s my list (in no particular order) of other methods, you’ll see that none give immediate results:

1) Website Log File Analysis combined with the addition of wildcard words to the pages to pick up unusual search phrases and patterns
2) Google Adwords Select gives a daily search count if you set up multiple terms
3) Overture Monthly Report/Statement gives search volumes

On the CPC on Overture and Google I set up a large search account with 100’s of search phrases NOT for the CPC traffic (which is normally expensive for the popular search terms) but for the reports. They often show some surprising results.

Any additions please?

Smiley, that's exactly the method I use. I've tried some of the "word sites" and to my way of working, they are not useful. I think it is a case of that old garbage in=grabage out thing. You have to know where the data is coming from.
