different keyphrases and content question

Hi,

I was just looking at my statistics program, which is AWSTATS and I see that for april, it says I have 11,461 keyphrases. Now when I look at march, it says 19,934 different keyphrases.

Is that because april is only half over or what?

Also, how would I get the keyphrases up higher on google for the different pages? Keep the content fresh?
