WT does not account for page rank

How can you quickly determine niche keywords then?

What is the fastest way to find the best keywords? WordTracker gives competition results but they don’t take into account page rank. You could have 1,000 competitors at avg. page rank of 2 or 1,000 competitors of avg. page rank of 4, and that would make a big difference?

What do others find useful? Also I would love to know Overture/Yahoo and Google methods (especially Google).

thanks!

The answer is so simple, it will bowl you over:

Create Content

The truth about keywords can only be found in one place: your weblogs. There you will find the absolutely, positively most accurate information about:

  • what search terms are easiest/hardest to rank for
  • what users are actually searching for
  • what search engines to optimize for
  • valuable search terms you would never have come up with on your own
  • how much traffic a given search term can can provide
  • what the conversion rates are for one search term versus another
  • how traffic varies over time of day/week/month/year

So sure, look at keyword tools, competing sites, whatever you like to pick your first 200 search terms (you weren't thinking that "best" means a small number of terms, were you?) and get started. Doesn't really matter. What matters is GET STARTED. Once you have a few hundred pages, then your weblogs will begin to teach you, be your guru, your Yoda. Teach you where the money lies, they will, yes!

Stop the obsession over PageRank, and Green Baroholic syndrome. WordTracker is just one of many tools you should be using to find the right keywords to target. PageRank should never be a factor in determining anything as the data that Google show syou is 4-6 months old.
