Did not know the existence of overture.

Now i have to beg 100 webmasters to edit my links.

Did anyone ever face a similar situation and can give me some pointers?

Thanks

I've always found it hard work to get a webmaster to anything with links once they have been set up so good luck

can i just backtrack a bit ... i can see why you might want to change your incoming anchor texts (good luck with that)

but i fail to see what that has to do with overture

Overture revealed to me that my selected keywords are rarely searched.My logfiles show the same results.I targeted keywords that are searched less than 100 times a month.

ok i get you.

you mean you have now found out that your target keywords aren't searched very much!

i'd not worry about your current links, just with the new ones ask for different link text.

however i would say that i get quite healthy traffic from a bunch of search terms that according to that keyword tool don't get very much action

1) If begging can make them change their link text, then beg. It will surely do most of your SEO work for the new keywords.

2) If you have not optimised your internal linking text for your new keywords then start doing that first.

3) Do some refurnishing to your website and mention that in your email to webmasters so that they can have a reason (although quite undue) to change your link texts.

If the existing link texts would make good sense to a human user, leave them alone and invest your efforts into cultivating new links.

It's not fair to ask existing webmasters to do extra work just because you changed your mind about what you wanted.

There will come a day when this webmaster might need the same service from me.Sure why not.

I would be surprised if you got many changes in the traffic on a short term - overture is not everything, a lot has to do with how competitive a term is (an aspect overture neglects) and, even more importantly, your content.

If I were you, I would ignore the existing links and be happy to get a bit of a variety in anchor texts. Personally, I don't request specific anchor texts from webmasters at all, but SEO only content, page structure and the origin of the incoming links. But then again, this might be the reason why I get only about 40 visitors a day ;)

I wish there was a bell that rang each time somebody enters my website.It's disappointing to check logfiles 20 times a day and only find bots and linkcheckers.

I wouldnt bother changing the old links I would just optimise the pages for the new keywords and then get another x amount of inbound links with the new anchor text.

Going off topic but if you want to track your visitors per visits then you can add some SSI + CGI scripts and it will mail you each time a visitor comes to your site.

SSI could look like this.

<!--#if expr="$HTTP_REFERER && ${HTTP_REFERER}!= /yoursite.com/"-->
<!--#include virtual="/cgi-bin/notifyreferer.pl" -->
<!--#endif -->

And CGI program can have a sub routine which send email to you with whatever details you want by using sendmail.

This code will only work where the browser is sending referrers to your site as many Internet Security softwares block that.

I think you should keep the existing rankings and think about creating a few more content pages to optimize for those pages the keywords that you desire. It won't be as tough of a task as you have done before.

Would be interesting to know your thoughts.

The less popular your keywords (according to Overture) the more likely you will rank highly for those keywords. On the other hand the higher ranking words have a lot more competition which you will likely not rank anywhere for if your website is new and out of the sandbox. So you have to test them to see which works best for you. Also remember that Google produces a lot more traffic than Overture so the numbers will be higher in Google.

I don't rank within top 1000 in Google for my main business term (two words) but just adding one more word enables me to rank on first page for most combinations.
