Google (and other SE) keyword density standards?

I've heard varying numbers about this

Ok, I have an interesting situation here. Without pointing to any specific sites, I noticed that some are suggesting a keyword density (for Google) to be around .7% to 2%. On the other hand, through some posts on this forum, I noticed that some are suggesting between a whopping 10% to 15%.

I'd almost be willing to believe that the first set of percentages are correct, while the latter must be for something else. If I had a 500 word post, and followed the second standard, then that would equate to 50-75 repeated keywords in one document. That just seems crazy and more like spam..

Could someone tell me if I'm wrong about this? any ideas as to what the true estimated KD (preferably for Google) should be?

Any help would be much appreciated!
