Hey everyone! I have a few keyword programs and i doubt im allowed to say the names on here so i wont. but i have three of them.

The reason i have them is im trying to learn what keywords and phrases I should place into my <title> <description> <keywords> and directly into the site. My website sells for example art so there are TONSSS of relevant keywords to use.

however i was told dont try to use the broad keywords such as the word "art" because the big boy www companies will swallow you up. I was told to go after the more complicated ones such as "buy art online" which is not as sought after as just "art" or maybe "buy original art online" ..

Im just so lost because i dont know what keywords i should use and was hoping maybe there is a great (free?) program out there that can help me!

thanks everyone in advance for your responses =)

You can try the adwords or overture keyword suggestion tools as a start. Make a page for each keyword. Include meaningful copy. Use the search term in the <title> tag. Use your title in an <h1> tag.

Check your logs and see how people are finding you. Capitalize on those terms by making a page with meaningful copy for them. Follow the above formula.

Study yourself in doing searches, and watch those around you as they search, especially when they don't find what they want on the first try. Those patterns will give you more ideas (e.g. widgets -> widgets blue -> widgets blue for sale)

You can generate a lot of traffic off of seemingly obscure search terms. Guard those that pay off dearly.

WILLYBFRIENDLY: I have tried searching myself and have tried keyword generators, but there are just TOO MANY choices. I have watched friends type in different ways to find art to buy online. Problem is is that I notice not many sites rank high for multiple keywords, (unless Im missing something) so they have found their niched keywords. I wonder to myself if i should just use one of the competitors keywords that I see (as they sell the same product I do).
One thing i noticed in my "hit tracker" is that people are finding me the wrong way,, keywords that seem to work to find me are SDCEC which probably is some akronym but how it finds my site is a huge mystery.. also some company for clothes has the same name and Im getting hits from them.... Sorry I'm rambling just because I'm a wee bit confused!
