Has Google given up looking for hidden keywords?

Hi there,

So you guys ain't so scary.. after spending a few days lurking I'm gonna throw my first post at you. Sorry if this has come up before..

I'm finding a few sites with hidden keywords (same colour as background) and other sites multiple domains and in some cases even cloaking.

After reporting a few of these sites to Google (well, we all want cleaner results right?) months later nothing gets done.

Has anyone else noticed this? Has Google quit fighting spam?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld! Google spends a lot of time fighting spam. My guess would be since there are so many sites reported, it may take awhile to get to them all. Glad you decided to post, Microdot. For the most part, members are very friendly and helpful.

Many thanks for the warm welcome mona, and for pointing out the time it takes Google to get through reported sites.

Thanks again,

If you read back through the old G threads, you'll find the answer: They don't hand-edit their results, except in the most aggregious cases. Instead, they take the reported sites, find the common indicators of different kinds of 'violations,' and tweak their algorithms to catch them. But because CSS, table backgrounds, and other tricks can be used to hide text on a page, they're just not very good at catching it... yet. But ya never know what tweak will roll out next month, or tomorrow.

Hidden keywords are a big no-no--they will get your site flagged or even banned from Google and the other Search Engines.

That's what they are saying. (maybe for legal reasons? ;) ) (Reported) Sites get (often) banned, but other pages using exactely the same trick not. If it would be an algo tweak this would be strange.
