How do I analyise my Wordtracker keywords?

Hi all,

I spend some time on WordTracker and pulled out all the keywords which relate to my website and project. I exported them into Excel to review further.

There are way too many and I need to determine the best ones to use.

What would be the best way to analyise the key words and phrases? KEI doesn't seem right and others on this forum have indicated the same.

When you have so many key words and phrases how do you really know what your target market is using?

That my friend is where you will have to spend money to get the information :). You need to target keywords and track what words convert to sales. Otherwise you are advertising in the dark.

Many people have lost lots of money finding THE RIGHT keywords. People are typically suprised at what they find. The words that you might think convert to sales may not.

Without knowing more about your specific market you may have to experiment.

The market is actually web design, gui design, icons (especially for the software and handheld device markets) etc which is a service industry and therefore is not an instant conversion to sales.

The result is traffic from specific persons looking for design, gaining partnerships and most importantly gaining leads.

Being in marketing I know that trial and error is a normal way to determine the right level of leads vs paid advertising.

You mentioned spending money to gain the right key words, how do you do this?

Virago, I think you should sort the list decreasing with the most popular keywords on top.
Then, take a deep look at the competence websites (eg Google top 10 or 20), by searching your keywords-keyphrases with exact match, using hyphens, and without hypens also. Then you should know if you would reach the first page or not.
This is just brief, and by reading more and more, I realized that many styles of work are possible. Fortunately there's not a recipe.
There're some other people that sorts the list by the '24 hour' column, it seems to be ok also.
I'm also a novice and I get this tip from some well known pro.

Good luck!

Don't forget to check how many inbound links they have, and how many indexed pages they have, as well as the overall quality of their sites, how do you feel as a visitor, you know..

Thanks guys. This gives me some ammunition. I have alot of key words and phrases but really don't know how to really work with them.

Also I don't know if these are the ones most of my target market. I am only guessing.

I would test your keywords using Google AdWords. Then you can see which ones attract the most impressions, clicks and conversions.
