Switching target keywords

targeting multiple sets of keywords for the same page

I have an entry page into a tutorial that does quite well in terms of search engine position for target keywords "making a widget".

However, i want to start targeting a different set of keywords, example "building a widget", which gets more searches.

While I want to target the different keywords, I also want to retain the significant amount of good quality traffic I get from the other set of keywords.

Amalgamating the 2nd set of keywords into the text of the entry page would be a little awkward and really would not add to the quality of the tutorial.

Would I have to create a parallel entry page? How can i target the other keywords without jeapordizing my current traffic?

You should create a second entry page focused on the second kw set with own tags and text.
This in order to avoid duplicate content penalty.

It's hard but not impossible to optimize a page for more kw sets but It would be needed a specific SEO software to check that it matches well for both. And however there isn't nothing sure.

In my opinion, especially if you are getting good traffic, avoid any risk and create a second page.

Thanks for the advice, seems I'll have to do a second page then. Thanks!

Adding a second page also builds added content (as long as it is not duplicate) and increases your internal link structure.

Ok, I have to resurrect this thread. :) Thanks for the advice thus far, but I have another question.

So I'm done building the parallel entry page targeted to the other kw set, and now am trying to figure out the best way to expose it to SE's.

hp11 mentioned internal linking, ok, so it's just an entry page, it won't make any sense for me to link to it from an internal location, at lease a location that is popular with visitors.

And when I think about reciprocal linking, I always come up with link partners that already have a link to my site for the 1st kw set. I don't want to be spammy and give them a link that goes to pretty much exactly the same tutorial with a separate entry page.

Any pointers?

Am I asking for too much, will I have to be a *little* bit spammy in order to achieve the desired result?
