Important keyword phrase with multiple euphemisms

How do I optimize if one is politically incorrect?

I'm working with a new client. Over the last several years, the name of the business they're in - and therefore their main keyword phrase - has changed to a more 'politically correct' version. In fact, there are several new euphemisms for the old name/keyword phrase.

Both the old KW phrase and the new ones are being searched. Here's the problem. I don’t see how I can use the old KW phrase along with the new one on their site. If someone found the site using the new KW phrases, they might take offense to seeing the old one on their site.

So, I'm not sure what to do. I should mention, this is only for the natural SERPS, not PPC.

Cloaking? It seems like a valid solution. But I'm still a little wary of using it. Hidden text? Just kidding;-) I'm stuck - any ideas? For now I'm focusing on all the new versions, but I hate to leave all that qualified traffic out there. Is cloaking the only option? If so, can anyone reassure me that it's safe for a client? Any other ideas?

Hi Mona,

Is cloaking the only option? If so, can anyone reassure me that it's safe for a client?

I'm experienced with cloaking and I can reassure you that it's completely safe for your client.
I mean ,from a technical point of view.
The original site in fact doesn't run any risk.
On the contrary,it results in two concrete disadvantages:
Normally the only disadvantage is that the ranking of the site, and so its visibility, is strictly bound to the cloaked pages.
This means that if the cloaked site is get caught and banned, the visibility of your client breaks down. However,in my opinion/experience, if you work well and use some "tricks" and a valid cloaking script is nearly impossible to get cought.
And however,in the case, you could quickly set up another cloaked site and restart the optimization, limiting the "black out" time.

But in your case,a second BIG disadvantage results by using it: cloaked pages are named as keywords you want to optimize for.So if you want to optimize a site for also, we say, "unethical" keywords, they will represent the name of some cloaked pages:
For instance,if you want to optimize a site for "kind-keyword" and "unethical-keyword" the cloaking script will generate two pages named "kind-keyword.html" and "unethical-keyword.html",so your problem remains unsolved ,as visitors could see the unhetical keyword in the url address bar of their browser.
I know that it there should be a way to hide cloaked addresses but I'm not sure about its effectiveness.
This is something you could ask in the "cloaking" forum, where I seem to see a thread about the subject.

Leave it out instead, hidden text/link idea. You haven't any idea about how SEs easily recognize this and penalize you.

Hope to be helpful.

Bye

Thanks, spector. Yes, you showed me even another reason to forget about cloaking as an option. I don't know. I'm thinking now of maybe running a subdomain. I doubt most people are savvy enough (or care enough) to check out the main domain if they're on the sub. And I really was only joking about the hidden text - I'm boring ol' white hat all the way.
