Way to success or waste of time?

I found in logs most serched keyprase was 1 word only.
So if you are targeting "yourcity yourproduct" seems to be the best to be #1 in "yourcity" instead "yourcity yourproduct".

Am I right?
Is targeting 1 keyword only the way to success or should you pick a lower profile target as a 2 words keyprhase?

Hi,

Of course, keywords are more effective than keyphrases,so they brings to you much more traffic.
But their limit is a large number of competitor pages.

On the contrary, keyword phrases are less typed in general but have less competitor pages and in add, bring you a more quality traffic.

Let's make an example:

If you target the keyword "Car" it's sure that you've thousand of visitors because is a commonly typed word, but How many competitor pages/sites do you believe it has? How many other sites target this keyword?
And how it can bring you good quality traffic if it is so generic? What do you mean targeting the word "car": A car wash? A car rental? A car garage? A car seller? A car hifi store? You see?

Instead, using a specific keyphrase such as "American Car Rental",it's sure that you've less traffic, but you drive the visitors directly to a specific niche where are less competitor pages in add.
Your conversion rate will be much better!

Research have shown that more and more people are using two or more words to make their search specific.

So it is always better to target keyphrases then keywords.

for example keyword-"quilt" and you sell cotton quilts

if you target just quilt, you are just waisting your time. for people who type quilt may be looking for quit tips or silk quilt etc.

so it is better to be as specific as possible in this case cotton quilts, regarding your keyword targeting.

stick with the phrase.

You don't need to catch all of the fish in the ocean, but .001 percent would make you rich.

I totally agree with specter. In my opinion, traffic is useless if it doesn't convert to sales, unless you are selling ad space, want clicks for adsense, etc. - then traffic is what you need to ensure the success of your ad space and adsense. Otherwise, I think it is much better to use keywords/keyword phrases that are more niche, but will result in better conversions.
