is there keyword limit? should i have as much as i can think of or should it be less but better targeted?

also, what does it mean when a robot hit's your site?

Yes, there is some type of limit to the keywords. I mean that you should target specific pages for specific keywords. That way you can put the relevancy necessary to rank high for a short list of important terms.

When a robot hits a site, it visits to collect data. The bot then analyzes your sites data, and adds your site to their database based on its findings and calculations.

Focus is better... Sounds like you understand the principle. It's not clear whether you're talking about the meta keywords tag, or just the number of phrases you should be targeting on a page.

The idea of focus applies to both. Phrase targeting and meta keywords tag (not terribly useful, but something I still do), along with other meta tags and the title element, should be individualized for each page.
