I originally had a long drawn-out description and question for what I'm about to ask, but I'm toning it down to just this:

Does Google and the other major search engines penalize pornographic websites?

Assumption is that the site isn't doing anything bad by seo standards (i.e. no doorpages, no redirect pages, etc), just plain old content that can be displayed publically.

I don't think so. Filters yes, but not penalisation.

It is well known that adult related searches account for a very significant (if not the majority) of queries, and so it would be silly for a search engine to intentionally degrade the quality of their most popular "product".
