Split up keywords in phrase?

As a rule of thumb, in content is it good to split up terms?

Hi - I read this somewhere, but haven't seen any other reference to it, and am wondering if it is true.

You have a phrase of 2 or more keywords. Instead of using the phrase over, intact,throughout the content and meta tags (alt, description, anchor text) -- it is good to split the words up? I read that Google likes this better. For example:
Jones New York Women's Jackets

Better to have some occurrences of just "Jones New York" and "Women's Jackets" (or just 'jackets' and just "women's" or "women") , in addition to the whole phrase?

Think about what *you* might be searching for, with relevance to your site. If you are selling women's jackets, then certainly include that phrase. Likewise, if you were wishing to find a shop selling jackets, you might want to saerch for the word 'jackets'? But as these terms are already included in 'Jones New York Women's Jackets' there's probably no need to split the phrase.
