PR is Page Rank. Google's score of a webpage.

Not actual position in the SERP?
Is this a published scoring mechanism which I can use at Google or another site?

I remember in the good old days when AV Belgium had a score shown against the sites in the search results.

The reason I am confused is the reply above which says that a site with a PR of 4 can move ahead of one with 5 or 6, this implies ??
Soz for the denseness - it's been a long day.
Great forum BTW.

I am a little confused about page rank. To me it seems like "You have to have credit to get credit" type of thing. I understand that you want to link to other sites that have a high page rank, but how does this start? What I mean is that you can't start with a page rank of 10, so how is it determined who starts with what rank?
