Directories that list sites for a one-off fee?

Any other directories that don't charge monthly/annually?

I spent two months saving up $300 to list my site at Yahoo and what happens? They have the audacity to now ask for $300 every year!

Well, my site is packed full of content (as well as advertising to pay for my hosting costs) and if Yahoo won't have it and other quality small sites then it will ultimately be their loss.

Instead, I've decided to spend the $300 to list the sites with other directories. Last year I paid for it to be listed (it is a British movie site) at Looksmart and UKPlus. Today I paid $40 for a listing at Qango.com

I was wondering if there are any other directories that anybody knows of where they would consider a Web site/premium listing for a one-off fee. There are numerous directories and yellow-pages type sites which charge annually, but are there any others like Looksmart, UKPlus and Qango, which only have a one-off fee?

Those greedy fat cat managers at Yahoo!, no doubt already raking in $100,000+ per annum, certainly won't be getting a penny from me.

Even if you find those directories, how do you know they will not succumb to the same competitive pressures that Yahoo now faces? In other words, do you know anyone who can eat a really big plate of food today and live off it for decades?

But getting back on track and adding to the list, there are plenty of business directories such as business.com. (case in point: the one-time listings will always get pushed down below the ongoing listings.)

You might find a few more at [directory.google.com...]
