Distinguishing IP Address Classes...

How do you classify them?

I know that links from various IP address classes is key to things like link popularity and so on.

Using the example IP address of: 123.456.789.XYZ

What numbers exist in each of the various classes, and what impact do they have.

For example, is 123 an "A-Class series"?

I'm just totally lost on this - so thanks for any input.

This topic has been debated quite a bit. Most people recommend having your sites on (at least) different C classes, which would be "789" in your example.

Different A and B classes (123 and 456 in your example) is even better, but I don't think you need to go that far unless easily feasible.

Very cool Drastic... Thanks for the clarification!

I've been lost on this for months it seems...

So, it is:
AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD 'eh? Sounds simple enough!
