Help! I'm very new to this and have the task of cleaning up after a consultant that made a mess of our web site.

As part of our META TAGS - he put the above. My question is does this really work or is it more of a dream?

Please help!

Gregg,

A belated welcome to the fourms.

This does work, and the search engines do adhere to the tag if it is structured right.

This is an example stright off one of our clients sites:

<meta name="revisit-after" content="60 days">

I'd be interested to see which SE's do obey this tag. It certainly doesn't have any impact on Google which is our main focus. Perhaps others? (I'd say it's irrelevant.)

Does the spider ignore the content if it has not changed from the previous time it spidered?

I have some sites with this tag and some without. I cannot see any difference in crawling cycles of top 10 SE.
I stick with Keywords and description and sometimes NoIndex,follow for wallway pages.

May be soon we will all have to add :
<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE">
<added>And bill Microsoft for the work.</added>

I consider the rest as pushing down the goodies with useless lines.

I find this works very well;

META NAME=Inktomi CONTENT="Visit as often as you like, maybe everyday, just grab the index page. Use the data free of charge with no intention of sending any traffic. If you accidentally add the site to the dB please ensure it drops out after a few days."

As for the revisit-after tag I see no effect.

OK - I get the feeling that this is deff. a useless piece of code that is only taking up space.

Thanks all for the feedback. Now - how about this for a tag

META NAME=Inktomi CONTENT="send 1 million hits to me per day and all your money".>

I suggest you can replace Inktomi by Microsoft. :)
