does this black hat seo work?

can you actually increase your SERP rankings by putting Google's search engine box on your website and use some spam program to repeatedly search for your site. This makes Google think you have high link popularity and therefore ranks you higher?

Can anyone refute or agree with this?

I'm guessing it doesn't help for the mentions you just mentioned (artificial searches). I have a Google toolbar on one site, but its set to only allow people to search within that particular site and not the WWW. I've wondered what effect the search box has, or if the keywords showing up in my SE stats include searches originated from the site, but ultimately it doesn't make a big difference. It was installed to make finding archived news easier.

No, that would not work. If you have doubts, and perhaps even if you don't, I suggest you just try it, find out, and report back. ;-) That's what every good SEO does. How do you think the best SEO's know what they know? They watch everything, analyze everything, and test like crazy. The best, most valuable knowledge comes from within; not from what others tell you.
