All the research I have done to this point appears to be outdated and does not offer a definitive answer. I realize that a dedicated IP would render the best results, but is there any evidence that suggests virtual IP’s produce negative search engine results?
Any new information would be much appreciated.
I can't say that I know of much in the way of new info since then. There are risks with anything less than dedicated IP's. Many will say there are no issues...but just because being on a shared IP hasn't hurt a site, doesn't mean it won't.
IMO, if site is doing fine and the host is good, the risk may or may not warrant getting a new dedicated IP, though there is some risk. And if your site all the sudden tanks in the SERP's are you really going to go sniffing around to see if it's an IP issue? Not likely that most webmasters would do that.
What I'd be even more careful about is setting up a new site at a new host on anything other than a dedicated IP.
Unfortunately, getting a dedicated IP can be more of an issue in some countries than others. I have heard for example that most of the hosting co's in the UK prefer to use shared IP's. Dunno if that's still true but I imagine it is.
