Is there a secret way to the top?

I know we talk about good SEO practices, but something is fishy.

I am new at this, but after doing some research and understanding that it takes time, hardwork and good practices of SEO to get to the top of a search engine, it still bothers me on how some site manages to get there where they might not deserve it.

For instance, I know a particular search on google or yahoo for that matter, fe a small, not very well-known ppc ad network shows up as #1.

Call me crazy, but I would think that if the keyphrase "make money online" triggers subject related to ppc ads serving, adsense or ypn would show up first, not this particular website.

It makes me think that there is some secret out there to get to the top of the SE list. Just kind of make you think, you know?

If someone told you the secret, well, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. I think it's no secret that there are known techniques that produce results, and present a risk. If you are in this for the long haul with a good domain, I would recommend time, hardwork and good practices. It works.
