What is better as an outbound link?
For example, if you have an article about *marketing industry* and you want to place an outbound link to another site, is it better to link to the *main index page* of the site about *internet marketing* or link directly to the article on "marketing industry"?
-->This is speaking as far as an *outbound link* that is linking to a higher authority site with good info.
--*And also as an *outbound link* that will provide a -better result- (seo) for the *site* that is providing the outbound to the other site.*--
Which would be a better link?
To the main index or directly to the article?
Thanks guys for your help:)
I appreciate all your helpful replies.
Thanks again:)

"While reasearching this column I found that <www.example.com> has an excellant article on <internet marketing>."
Hopefully the other domain is named appropriately, but even if not, this way addresses both my desire to link directly to a subpage and some sites desire that links go to their home page.
It does result in giving 2 links though, I'm fine with that, and while others may not be, I also think that's usually good for visitors.
But as far as seo, would it be better link to a sites
main page? I'm speaking as far as what brett says about having at least 1-2 outbound links on a page.
Should i keep looking for a site that has
the subject on their main page?
Also, is good to have more than one outbound per page?
I have heard that it diminishes the pr strength of the page.
Well,... if you guys know please reply:)
All advice is welcome:)
Thanks again ken_b

1) SE's like link patterns that look natural (i.e., that are natural).
2) Users like sites that make sense, and direct them to clearly appropriate resources when linking out.
Link to the pages that make the most sense to link to, from the pages that make most sense to link from.
Usefulness; relevance; clarity - what a concept! ;-)
