Hi,
Optimising a site at present which has a js drop down for navigation - been told that this is no good for SE Robots - however the site does have all the categories in the html as lists.
Can the robots spot this as the required categories? Would it be better if we redesigned the site with a static text navigation or should we place a static navigation at the bottom of the page to match the drop down navigation? Any suggestions?

At least js navigation should be avoided, as the SE do not recognize or follow js, only propper "href".

Once, I used a menu on a site that linked to every 2nd level content, and every page from there had the same menu but this one was generated by a js... for speed

I had no problems as the main page was a good working door to all my pages

Thanks, pretty much thought so. Annoying thst devs are still using these navigation purley for aesthetic. We changed one to a text nav a few weeks ago and it's already made big difference to ranking .

adybee, I agree. Designers very, very often have little or no clue about SEO. I'm not sure that will ever change, or even that it should change (well, maybe a little basic SEO knowledge would be nice), but it is incumbent upon those who build sites to make sure that they find out what the designers know, and make sure that SEO gets incorporated into the site dev process.
