Hi, I have created a web site but don't understand how I get my web site to appear when people key word search, I have read about the Google search engine but how do I get to the top of Google and Yahoo,
Is there any free downloads before I start paying for advertising,

Thanks

Hey,

Advertising is paid option you have to pay huge amount of money on pay per click ads. SEO is natural way of listing in search engines.

Try to read more articles on search engine optimization and try to find good ways to promote your website. The best way is to first observe the website of your top competitor.

Hi Lizzy and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

You've come to the right place. I would suggest you start here:-

An important point to remember is that there are no shortcuts. Marketing your websites through the search engines takes time and you're up against everyone else doing the same in your keyword sector.

Ultimately, it comes down to being recognised as an "authority" resource - that recognition, in general terms, comes from having the highest quality and most useful content on your site about the subject and that quality being recognised by the fact that everyone else in the industry links to you.

Hi
Did Lizzy manage to find out any more information on search engine optimization? I've had the same problem with Google and Yahoo and have registered my site nearly 6 months ago!

I've got no broken links and I've gone through the usual adding keywords to the description and metadata but it still doesn't seem to find it when doing a keyword search?

TraceyT1, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Take to heart TJ's comments. It's not a quick path anymore, for the most part.

The more sites that link to you, the faster you'll appear in the SERP's, and the higher you'll go. That assumes that there are no basic, structural problems with your site, and that the site is reasonably well put together so that the SE's can understand it.

The more unique and interesting the site is, the more likely it will be to receive nice inbound links. Sharing the love by linking to other sites (that you view as valuable resources within your segment) can help too.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for all the help, I will take on board all of the comments and I have already started writing some interested content for my site, hopefully I will be able to report back some improvements in 6 months or so,

Thanks
