Hey guys:)

I read a post and in it it stated not to change a webpage it if it was doing well in the engines.
(for example on the first page results.)
*Also not to change it unless it droppped to the next page and if you changed it at all, to be careful of the changes. A slight change might be helpful to kick it back up in the engine results.

So,...I have a question i thought you might be able
to answer.

Well...

I have a page that was ranking #7 on the *first* page results for it's *exact* [4] keyword combination. It has now dropped to #1 on the second page results for it's kw combination.

-It was being listed on the *first page results* for about 2 months.
-It was competing with about 347,000 or more other webpages for this combo.

*Also the same page is also #1 for it's *exact* [4] kw phrase combo in the same engine on the 1st page results, but it needs *quotations*" " around the kw phrase combo to list it number #1.
*It was number #1 with a few sites on the results and even when about 100 more sites listed theirs for the same combo i was still ranking #1 for this kw combo.(quotations needed for this #1 spot.)

*Also someone told me that same thing happened to their webpage when they first started and about 3 months later the sitepage was coming up for different combinations.

--------------------------------------
Q.1.>> So... the webpage is optimized for a few combinations in 1 kw phrase so i was wondering,... i'm trying to hit the *first part* of 4 kw phrase combo in the combination but i'm only coming up for the exact 4 keyword phrase combo.

>Q.>>Should i tweak the page or wait to see if it comes up for more combinations later?
Will it come up for variations later?
------------------------------------------------------

**Also my site was indexed really quickly. about 3-5 days, so the site must be pretty good for the engines to list it that quickly. *I say that only because maybe that would be a factor in changing the page or not. Since the engine liked it and listed it on the 1st page results, maybe it will come up on the first page results for other variations of the kw phrase later.

-------------------
Here's an example:

>4 kwphrase combo(with stop words)

- The widget repair tool drive with low pricing.
(not exact kw phrase or sentence. kws are: widget repair tool drive)

*Trying to target -widget repair-,
-widget repair tool- etc...

Well guys, i'd like your advice and any opinions you might have.
What would you do?

Thanks alot fellas:) I do hope you reply.
And thanks for your help:)

I had a page that was ranked on first page of Yahoo for a 2 word phrase which is very competitive. It fell to 3rd page when I changed it, after reverting back the old html code, it came back to the first page.

Then I again changed it, it again lost it's first page listing.

All logic told me the new change should improve my rankings on the first page but the reality was different.

So, keep a backup, before you do anything.

I have seen #11 produce more traffic than #7.

The only idea I have about this is that people will read the first couple of results listed, scroll to the bottom scanning 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Then they read #10 and click next.

#11 is not a bad place to be in my experience. Not as good as top three, but still not bad, at least for some terms.
