Hi all

If i may pose a question in respect to search engine optimization - i hope this doesn't sound crass or naive.

I have heard claims from some SEO's that they can optimize your site by applying a code - a hidden code. Which the visitors cannot see and does not alter the appearance of a website.

Is this just a roundabout way of saying that they will alter your meta tags? or is there more to it?

Stavs,

SEO's will generally optimize your main website, and in doing so, they will/might update index page of your web site. Most of the times, client does not want to change the look or *any* text on their existing web site - so in these situation, a you can expect any good SEO to at least fine tune your web site, without changing the look of the site. I assume that this is what few SEO might refer as Hidden Code.

Also not to mention, Cloaking is also one of the widely used technology and someone might refer it as hiding code from web surfers.

Hope I answered your Q

Thanks - you have answered my question.

It was something I read yesterday that made me query this terminology 'hidden code'.

I think in the context in which I read it, the SEO was appealing to an audience whose knowledge of SE's and optimization is v. limited.

It's actually a clever pitch now I think about it - this 'mysterious' hidden code ;)

It impressed me, and I do my own optimization and SE submissions :)

Yeppers. That is really the only way for a new webmaster to know what you are referring to if you wish them to know that code changes will Not affect the look of their page.

If they thought new code you were implementing would "change" their page, they might just move on...

You kind of have to spell things out in your content.
