Why is it that we all see the same results? wouldnt it be better if we see results that included personal variables , age , sex , race , income , geo location , previous search , etc...
I think the past year we have seen major movements towards the personal results se ..we already have a geo search varibale , previous search variables are being loaded ..it's the personal information that I have really seen movement in..but no clear break through yet..
Mostly because of the civil liberties type laws ..but it it will happen ...
and once we get to the point to where that data can be used and once the variables are tweaked to consider our own personal evolutions..age , weight , income , marital status etc..(eventually you will have signed over the collection of that data (with only the actual identity not collected) as a prerequiste of using a browser se etc..)
Once we reach that over the next 5-7 years ..the se results will be pretty dead on for what we as an indivdual searched on..we can all search on th same keyword and we all woud get a differnet set of serps..
Asdevelopers this could work in favor of the mom and pops as well as the larger comapnies ..because while you may not have eve been able to rank #1 or page 1 on your keywords.. you may now across 10% of the search or 50% of the your keyword searches etc..
It will also bring down the natural domaination by large companies..because while they can saturate a serp now , once personalization serps arrive Large corp may not be the best fit for a certain percentages of search ..
But if they insist on that traffic anyways adwords will have developed to cover those dead spots..same with alladvertisers small and large .. you'll get free coverage under best fit personal variable and pay for any other markets you thin best fit missed

Thats for serving up the ads.. soon it will be for serving up search ..the search results you get will depend upon those same type of personal info..
I realy see within a few years this transition..there wont be one idex fits all ..everyone gets a different set up search results
