Bad news for you, I'm afraid -- this move almost definitely WILL be problematic. The best approach for all search engines will be to use a 301 redirect, but you should definitely expect a bump in the road. A new url for a page means that it starts from scratch in a search engine's index. How troublesome it can be depends on many factors, including whether the new domain is totally new or has some history.
Duplicate content issues would just filter out one version of a page or the other -- it's the least of your worries when changing to a new domain.
