Are there different rules?

We are working on a network of blogs centered around professional topics of interest. We have experts that are available to answer questions and post insightful information about that topic. I am working with our blog software to customize the title tags, description tag, etc.

We are successful with organic SEO for our other sites. We have achieved this through the somewhat traditional route of good content, strong internal link structure, fair number of strong inbound links and regular submissions to the major engines/directories. So far, it is working out well.

In regards to SEO for blogs, any ideas on the best blog directories and strategies for submissions? Are reciprocal links also important? Is it recommended to register a URL and then point to the blog URL (which is very long) to have a more concise URL to submit?

Thanks!

Rae's great post on blog traffic [webmasterworld.com] might help.

Note: The post is in Supporters. Another great reason to pony up. ;-)
