I would like to give some information to me client about the SEO I did for his site. What kind of comparative (before seo report vs current perf.) is pertintent?

1. Number of achieved positions
2. External links evolution
3. Page Saturation
4. PageRank

Whats else? Any suggestions? Any examples?

Thx!

For several years now, we've pitched our services as building traffic, rather than getting positions on various search reults. In fact, we've weaned all our legacy clients from receiving position reports. We still look at positions in-house, but we just consider them to be one of our internal tools.

Traffic is a much more telling area to the client than positions are. And with the way different search results are currently being targeted (dare I say cloaked?) for different users, you can't assume that any position report you run will be what the client sees if he checks. With personalized and localized search coming into the picture, the future may well be even more cloudy in this area.

So we take a benchmark traffic report from the server logs before we begin any work -- and that report focuses on search engine traffic and the keywords that bring it. Then our future reports compare the current moment to that benchmark. We show clients any new keywords that are bringing in traffic, plus report on the increases for keywords that were already working for them.

We also report on traffic from links, but not the number of links or Toolbar PR. Again, we find link counts and PR are too far removed from where the rubber really meets the road -- as well as being much too slow to update. We don't want clients obsessing about numbers that we feel can be red herrings.

We also work for improved conversions for some clients, site stickiness for most, and we also include that kind of data in our reports.
