Hi,
I'm kinda new to promoting. I've been reading here and am getting a little overwhelmed. Where should I start?

Welcome skunk_seo,

Before you do anything I'm going to suggest you get to know the board. This can be a really terrific resource. Up at the top of the page you'll see a help link. Start there. Learn about sticky mail, it comes in so handy. Check out the search feature. There's also the glossary which will help with terms you may find confusing. As to the rest I'll let the experts start you out.

Have fun :)

An excellent place to start is the 'thou shalt' thread [webmasterworld.com] which gives many of the solid groundings.

Skunk,

I feel your pain! It is overwhelming. I took a vacation and I need to get caught up.

My suggestion:

1. Start at [searchengineworld.com...]

which is the sister site to WebMasterWorld. There are a lot of basics there, and will get you a good start to the business. I highly encourage you to read the paper on "Theme based engines." You can find it by doing a site search (in the blue bar at the top of the page).

SearchEngineWorld will also give you a clue as to what questions to ask. If you are new to a subject, sometimes you don't even know the questions to ask.

2. Remember: the only "dumb question" is the one that is not asked. There are many people here who might be too shy to ask the very question you want to ask.
