Hiya Everyone,
Great site by the way.
My first post.
being completely computer illiterate,I thought you all may be able to help me.

I have a new site I am finding difficult to get ranked-page ranking is 0.

Its new I know and I know that it takes time.
I have a huge amount of work to do on it.
What does everyone recommend for a computer illiterate oldy do to start making his site rankable.
I do adwords 6pence per click .
Not sure if website keywords are any good etc...

Any help is much appreciated.

The first thing I would do is try to get some inbound links from websites that have a pagerank. Ideally, if these sites had a pagerank of 4 or higher that would be preferred. So if you have friends who have other websites ask them to put a link on their site to yours.

I would also figure out what alternative keywords that will be associated with your business. Using tools like word tracker or even [#*$!.com...]

if you are doing Adwords you need to know your keywords and study how your internet budget is being spent. Learn how to understand ROI and Conversions.

Before doing any more work on your website, I'd recommend getting a nice big cup of coffee (or tea or whatever floats your boat) and reading through the excellent information contained within this site.

It might help to have a document open where you can copy and paste the most useful information, to print out and read over in even more detail at a later stage.

Seriously though, everything you need is contained within the walls of WW. Use it.

I would forget about page rank.

Its inaccurate, out of date and basically irrelevent. To strive for it is the wrong end of the stick.

I can honestly say I have never bothered with it. Sure I learned the mantras repeated here, but in the end when you get into the core of it you realise its a byproduct of what your site is, not the focus of your site itself.

Its a bit like the persuit of happiness in a way...

Make a great site,
Make it unique
Make it a magnet
and make it sticky.

all the rest will come.
