I know we always talk about search engine placement, but does someone know of a list of the
Search Enigine importance. By importance I mean, who uses it, how popular is it, does it have business importance (do people who use it buy on-line) etc.

I remember seeing a page that listed the top engies based on popularity and the number of views it gets, but can't come accross it again.

Please let me know if you have seen anything close to the above.

Thanks

The WebSnapshot stats don't really have anything behind them anymore. We talked about this here.

The thing I don't like about websnapshots.com is they don't give the supporting data. Also, unless I am mistaken, doesn't goto supply results to most the top engines. If you look at the report goto is 7th. Does google get double credit for search results in yahoo?

Do you know of any reports that have site demographics? (who uses the site, what is the business value, etc)

My manager asked me to report on what are the top engines and why, (including the info above). I have not been sucessful in find reports meeting that need.

Thanks so much

There are a number of services/sites that rank the SEs. The best I have found is searchengine watch; it rates and explains the methodology of sites that rank search engine popularity so the reader can make his own judgement about which ranking service he/she believes is best.

[searchenginewatch.internet.com...]

another service to look at is:
[top9.com...]

This site used to be pretty good too, but it may no longer be in existence. I could not reach it today:

[notess.com...]

As I recall it offered fairly objective advice. But the first one I gave you, I think is the best.
