henrik80, taking your question literally, no you won't be banned for reorganizing a site.

There are other considerations, however, when large scale changes to a site are being made. Adding lots of new pages, changing file extensions, or changing sitewide navigation can cause issues with the SE's that can hurt your short term rankings in the SERP's.

A few guidelines we practice:

  • Make large scales changes gradually over time.

  • Generally try to add new pages regularly, rather than huge occasional updates (though sometimes large additions of content make sense and we do that when it does make sense for the user).

  • Implement sitewide nav changes in phases over time (the SE's seem better able to handle relatively stable sites).

  • Don't change page extensions unless really necessary, since that involves redirects when done right, and can cause pages to be temporaily dropped from the SE's.
  •
