meta tags-do they matter anymore?

I have just realised that on my site ALL of the pages have incorrect meta tags. There is a space between name= and the "keywords, also a space between = and "description and also a space between content= and the "

All the pages are hand coded so I have the prospect of manually chaning 500+ pages. the question is, do I need to?

Having those spaces is not a problem. Search engine spiders are clever enough to cope! Code formatted like that doesn't even trip the W3C HTML validator, so no need to worry.

if it ends up bothering you too much that they are there, a handy program that is free that would replace them all for your simultaneously is SRHTML (Search and Replace HTML).

I used to use SRHTML98 before going to dynamic pages, and it save me HOURS
